Shine On You Crazy Diamond

Tomorrow, Kate Middleton will become a princess.

Tomorrow, I will become a 22 year old girl sitting in an apartment, wearing a tiara, guzzling wine, staying in on a Friday night watching the hours of coverage that TiVo will tape.

I have to say I have mixed feelings about the whole monarchy thing. I don't want to judge another culture, but it seems so crazy that there is still such a thing as knights, and kings, and princesses.

I think a lot of people like the idea of the Queen of England, she's such a cute old woman, she's so poised and proper, a symbol of British culture. But it seems so much for show, I'm sure she has cut a lot of ribbons in her day. I just really can't imagine a man in that role. A King of a country just seems kind of silly. I kind of think once there is a King of England in the world today, people will think differently about the whole monarchy thing. Got to love double standards.

But what do I know? I'm just a commoner.

Here are my favorite royal babes:
Amelia Mignonette Grimaldi Thermopolis Renaldo, Crown Princess of Genovia

Princess Leia Organa Solo
Princess Zelda

Countess LuAnn

Buttercup
Fat Princess

Wish You Were Here...

Today, the Empire Today carpet pitchman passed away. This may not ring a bell to some of you, but for anyone from the Chicagoland area, it definitely means something.

Elmer Lynn Hauldren started making commercials as the Empire Man for Empire Today in 1977! I loved this guy! I watched him for years, and he was really a grandfather figure for all late night TV watchers.

Think about it, he did all of the things awesome grandpa's do: bribed you with gifts (I always wanted that signed Michael Jordan basketball), constantly repeated himself (588-2300...), scared the crap out of you on Halloween (anyone else remember the holiday commercials?), and always made you smile!

He's definitely someone who will be missed, along with all of our other awesome grandfathers.

I've wanted to start a blog for a while. I've literally told everyone I know that this is something I have in the works. What's taken me so long? Life's big questions: How much do I reveal? Who can I mention? How often is too often? Is anyone even listening to me? What's the point?

Actually. I'm just a procrastinator. But I'm happy to get this big life goal out of the way, because I've got a long way to go...
